It was a massive complicated project that involved demolishing our entire backyard including concrete, existing deck, a room that attached to our house and most of the existing landscaping. The owner Joe is a creative landscaping designer, and has a reassuring “we can make this happen attitude” He is fair and honest. They were not the cheapest bid we received but now we understand why. They have a great team that does excellent work. Trevor was a good team leader and made sure all the work was done to the high standards of the company. The landscaping crew were the hardest workers I have ever seen. A great crew! Most of this work is backbreaking and done in the heat or other challenging weather conditions.  Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I previously had about a 500 sq. ft. upper level deck that needed to be completely replaced. I wanted the back portion of the deck enlarged by about another 100 sq. ft. and to have a workshop built under deck. This required a new concrete slab under the back side of the deck. There were drainage issues that also had to be resolved and they were. It also required a Dry Below roof system under the workshop portion of the deck to keep the rain out. Installation of a mini-split heater/AC unit was needed for the workshop. There were other challenges including making a custom mount for the 13 foot cantilever umbrella that I wanted installed. There were multiple sub-contractors involved to handle concrete, electrical, roofing, HVAC and the custom metal railing. Colorado Deck & Landscape coordinated all of this perfectly. Management and the work crew were great to work with. Along the way I requested some changes/additions and these were easily accommodated. This was not an inexpensive project but Colorado Deck & Landscape’s bid was significantly lower than another one I got.  I absolutely love the new deck and workshop. Craftsmanship is top notch. You can tell they truly care about delivering quality results.

How long have you been in the deck business?

We have been serving the greater Denver area and surrounding communities since 1984.

Will my project require a permit?

Most of the time decks and permanent structures will require a permit. Some municipalities will not require a permit if the structure is under a certain height and size. Due to varying permit fees, the cost of the permit is not included in the estimate. Colorado Deck and Landscape will do the leg work to acquire the permit.

Do you offer a warranty?

We offer a three-year warranty on our craftsmanship plus any manufacturer’s warranty. We offer a one-year warranty on trees and shrubs provided they are properly irrigated.

When is the best time of year to have a deck or landscape project installed?

We install decks and landscaping year round. Winter and spring are great times to get these projects done so your outdoor living space is ready to enjoy during the warm months.

Do you hire subcontractors?

We will use subcontractors for any plumbing, gas lines, electrical work, masonry, and concrete. Occasionally we will supplement our in house carpentry and landscape crews with a subcontracted crew. This does not change anything for the homeowner. We project manage the crew as if they are our in house crew and we still warranty the work.

Will I need HOA approval?

If your community has an HOA you will need approval to have any exterior work performed. The homeowner is responsible for this, however we will provide any assistance you may need.

How much does a deck cost?

The cost to build a deck varies from project to project. Stairs and handrail tend to be the most expensive part of a deck per foot. Smaller decks that have a lower square footage to handrail and stair ratio tend to be more expensive than decks that have a high square footage to handrail and stair ratio. A platform deck with no handrail or stairs might be in the $65-$75 per square foot range. An average size (300 square foot and under) deck with handrail and a full staircase might be in the $100-$105 per square foot range. On higher square footage (over 300 square feet) decks with rail and stairs, the square foot price tends to start dropping.

What is better - Composite decking or wood decking

Composite decking has taken over the market. This is mainly due to composites being low to no maintenance. Also, the budget friendly composite options are about the same price, or even cheaper, than wood. Composite materials are not structurally rated, so we use wood or steel to frame the deck. Wood is used to build structures such as pergolas. Wood decks are more forgiving to build. The details on built-in items such as planter boxes and benches are much nicer and easier with wood. However, the cost and the maintenance on wood decks is higher and this is typically a deterrent for a lot of people.
